Norwegian is one of the first companies to invest wholeheartedly in Boeing’s new Dreamliner aircraft.
All of us who have had the pleasure of flying with it understand it well. Especially the good fuel economy, which means Norwegian (completely in line with the company’s tactics) has the opportunity to sell even cheaper air tickets to e.g. the USA and Asia makes good sense. After the hard start with a series of flight delays, the Dreamliner is now in full operation.
But what about the experience on board itself? Is Norwegian’s Dreamliner an attempt to take something and make it cheaper (and thereby worse)? Or is it actually a good experience to fly with?
The undersigned flew with Dreamliner directly from Copenhagen Airport in Kastrup to Las Vegas McCarran Airport. Especially 5 things excelled for me at the plane – and 4 of them are about technique:
Anti-jet lag
One of the most prominent features of the new aircraft is anti-jet lag. During the trip to America or Asia, the light in the cabin is adjusted so that from one second to another you do not wake up and are completely blown.
With the light it is possible to ”cheat” the body to a slightly skewed circadian rhythm that gives you a better experience once you land with the Dreamliner and get off the plane.
It’s not over with jet-lag – but it’s better than it’s ever been before. You can combine with the use of the body’s natural sleep hormone melatonin to make the chance of getting a good night’s sleep during the trip – something that also contributes positively to reducing jet lag and thereby getting a good trip after arrival.
Order directly on the screen
The info screen in front of you is great on a Dreamliner.
No more ordering food when a big and clumsy cart passes you.
From now on, you can see the entire selection on the screen in front of you. Buy what you would like and pay with your card. Then the staff will bring your order to you when it suits you.
It’s more comfortable, easier and you don’t have to wait to go to the toilet because a big sales cart blocks your entire side of the plane!
Play against the other passengers
The info screen can also be used to play small games like Tetris against other passengers. If you are several people flying the same plane and not sitting next to each other, this way you can ”play” anyway.
In many of Norwegian’s flights, however, you also have free internet-so you are not forced to play Tetris against your (unrealistically good) friends throughout the trip.
Of course, the info screen also has lots of movies, series and what else you would expect from a modern aircraft.
See camera under the plane
A personal favorite here is the opportunity to keep up with the journey with cameras in front, under and behind the plane. See the landscape directly below you or see how it looks from the angle of the pilots. For flight enthusiasts, it is a phenomenal feature.
Good room!
As promised, there is one more thing worth mentioning: the space.
The Dreamliner feels like a larger aircraft, although the Airbus A380 is much larger in reality. There is plenty of space in the cabin above you, your legs are not pinched, and you do not get claustrophobia of the toilet.
How they have achieved it with usual limited flight space is a miracle.
Have a good trip!
