Search engine optimization, also called SEO for Search Engine Optimization, is a process of influencing the visibility of a website or webshop in a search engine, through organically obtained results – that is, cost-free results. You use search engine optimization to get a higher ranking, typically on Google so that the website gets more visitors. More visitors are more potential customers, readers, followers and thus a better result is ensured for the holder of the website in question.
Recently I read an article in Forbes, by Steve Olenski, that explained the trends in SEO well and thoroughly and I was inspired to share the messages, why you are now reading this article. Enjoy!
- It still works!
It is important to mention that the techniques we use to improve our position in SEO still have an effect. Although you’ve probably heard about how Google has changed, adjusted and modulated with organic traffic, there are still plenty of reasons why the common techniques still work and there are plenty of examples to confirm that.
- It keeps working
Looking at the development of search engines, it does not seem that SEO will lose its effect in the near future. All our searches, even video and image searches, are dependent on keywords like text searches – if you are to make significant changes, it requires a complete restructuring of the search engines in general. If you search for “dry ice” today, you will most likely get similar results in the future, but this does not mean that the search engines do not develop.
- It’s cheap
Speaking of ROI, Return of Investment, SEO is a valid solution compared to advertising and other marketing activities that quickly become costly. With other solutions, you may be able to create rapid growth and fluctuations in revenue, but your search engine ranking is absolutely fundamental to your brand.
- Your customers are watching
Between 80 % and 90% check reviews of a product online before making a purchase and the percentage is predicted to increase. Without organic search engine optimization, websites are lost in the crowd and therefore it is essential to do the legwork now.
- A bad location can be disastrous
Each time Google, or any other search engine, updates its algorithm, the way the search engine perceives your website changes. Today, the assessment is based more on indicators from social media and this trend is very likely to grow. Furthermore, there is a greater focus on responsive design and mobile accessibility, which is worth considering. It can be disastrous for your ranking if you haven’t built strong content from the beginning because the search engines are constantly evolving.
- Your competitors are up and running
The thing is that your website is in competition with other websites whether you like it or not. It would be great if we could develop material that was one hundred percent unique, but unfortunately there are always others who use the same words as ourselves. Therefore, it is important to be super sharp on the relevance of the keywords used in the search engine optimization. If you can figure out how to overtake your close competitors with more relevant keywords you are already further ahead than you think.
If you can understand the technical details of search engine optimization you can build your website according to the guidelines that are applicable to each search engine and already here you are two steps ahead. The internal SEO is easy, but really too bad, to miss and therefore you should familiarize yourself with the topic. There are a ton of videos available on Youtube, both for novices and advanced. But! Even when you have mastered your internal SEO, with good and durable content, you need to share the page through external SEO. This is due to the fact that the search engine does not have some properties to read the actual quality of your content, but, on the contrary, bases its rating on the activities of others. That is, comments, likes, shares, links and other actions are essential, determined factors for your location online. So you can not just build a solid website, you also have to share its content thus creating the desired activity. It can be difficult to give a recipe for doing this discipline because, all other things being equal, you are dependent on the actions, opinions, and online processes of others. The best starting point is to create such good value on the website that it is passed on and the messages are shared without further activity, but unfortunately it is often an unrealistic dream scenario. The value can be many things, for example free material such as blog posts, newsletters or videos that allow the user to share it with their network. In addition, it may be relevant to compliment the search engine efforts through other marketing, with a view to the external SEO. There are many suggestions on how it can be done in practical, but the trend will always be that your ranking depends on the value of your website, which should be just as good or better than the competing websites.
