Microsoft launches an experimental tool that translates freehand sketches into HTML code, a way to save time on web development projects.

HTML it is one of the programming languages that feeds the Web to work together with PHP, CSS and others. And although it is a relatively easy language to learn and to implement, all help is little if it is programming in HTML, and artificial intelligence has a lot to say about it.

Microsoft it has its own Artificial Intelligence and among his most recent projects stands out Sketch2Code, a tool that creates html prototypes from freehand drawings. As simple as it sounds, although all the work is done by AI.

In short, this project brings a little closer two essential technical profiles in the development of websites and web pages. Aside, the designerand to the other, the programmer. So, with Sketch2Code, the former can make it easier for the latter to putting your ideas into practice.

Translate a sketch in HTML

Using artificial intelligence, or more specifically artificial vision or computer vision, Sketch2Code translate a sketch or schematic drawing of how a web project should be in HTML language to facilitate the task of the implementation by the team of web development.

Accessing the main page of Sketch2Code we’ll see that the process is as simple as follow three steps: we upload the design, which can be a scanned sheet or a sketch drawn on the computer, on a tablet or on a smartphone, then we let the tool do its magic and, finally, we get the corresponding HTML code.

Being a experiment, we can use this tool for free and without registration. In addition, the Sketch2Code explain in a simple and clear way what it is and how it works. What’s more, you can try several examples let’s see what the result looks like. And with the material that the users give us, we will training and improving the AI technology that works in Sketch2Code.

In the present, Sketch2Code it is offered as a small help in one of the early stages of web development. Looking to the future, it is not ruled out that this utility is integrated into the web services offered by Microsoft under the brand Azure and that will allow automate part of the job translating handwritten texts and freehand diagrams into HTML code that a machine can understand and improve on its own by artificial intelligence. In short, a combination of OCR technology of text recognition and artificial intelligence to learn based on patterns and repetitions of users.

More information about Sketch2Code and other Microsoft AI projects can be found on this website. And if you want, you can try the tool on your own on its official website with your own sketches or with the ones that it includes as a sample.
