We often take power for granted, as a human right or a natural part of everyday life, just as the water of course comes out of the tap. But if we were to live without power, there was not much we do today we could do. So far, almost 100% of the Achilles heel of all machines is the supply of power. All computers, lights, machines and all electrically powered activities would come to a standstill. If we ran out of coal and oil tomorrow so that we could not drive our power further and were dependent on alternative energy sources, then we would have to work very quickly to find a solution that made sense and that could meet the needs we have of not being beaten back to the Stone Age.
Fortunately, this is not our biggest challenge at this time. There are still large resources of energy in the form of oil and coal and there are still even more wind turbines and solar cells being set up to cope with the increased need for power that we have. However, it is not just to plug a plug into a wind turbine and draw power from it. Power is not so good with water and since many wind farms are located on the water, it is important to have some systems that transport the power that are waterproof and not corroded by the salt from the sea. Here, among other things, a plug like harting plug is one of the things you use in industry and many other contexts where it is important that the current can be constant and kept protected from outside influences.
Wind turbines are one thing, but here only the individual wind turbine and those that depend on the power from it are affected if the plug is corroded or destroyed in some other way. We have many other areas where the certainty that the power can be delivered, without being exposed to errors or breakdowns, is vital. Our entire infrastructure, when it comes to train operation, is dependent on power. Even though the train may be diesel powered, there is still a switch to start the train. Here you need a plug that is waterproof, impact resistant and light.
What about the robots?
The robot industry is a rapidly growing industry where great flexibility is needed. More and more functions in a company are taken over by robots. Even an assembly line can be called a robot, since it transports an item from A to B instead of a human moving it. But if there is a breakdown, then the entire production comes to a standstill and the employees can not perform their work optimally before it comes up and running again. The many types of robots and conveyors used in the industry also require different connectors to ensure that breakdowns do not happen, or at least happen as rarely as possible.
This also means that welding robots, luggage belts, galvanizing machines and other industrial machines are dependent on a protection of the current was plug to plug, which prevents corrosion, electromagnetic disturbances and vibration, as well as high temperatures to avoid breakdowns.
These are features that ordinary Danes do not think about in everyday life, but which our society is built around as a necessity to be able to live the life we do.
