Despite splitting from the company in 2017, Oculus Rift creator Palmer Luckey insists that Facebook’s purchase of Oculus was “the best thing that has ever happened to the VR industry.”

Luckey claimed this in a recent interview with Wired. The 26-year-old left Facebook in March 2017, after accusations of helping to finance a campaign of political discredit during the 2016 presidential election.

“It was the best thing that has ever happened to the VR industry,” he responded when asked if he regretted selling Oculus to Facebook. “Boosted billions of dollars in investments for other startups.”

Facebook bought Oculus in early 2014 for an initial sum of more than $ 2 billion, which is now believed to be approaching $ 3 billion. On Facebook, he launched the Rift viewer for PC users and, earlier this year, the Oculus Go. When asked if he wanted to continue using Oculus, Luckey replied,”I want the best for virtual reality.”

In another part of the interview, Luckey refuted the idea that price was the main reason why VR sales had not taken off in recent years. “A lot of people insist on the price, but if the RV available today were as good as The Matrix, the price wouldn’t be the problem,” he said. “It’s going to be a combination of better software and better hardware.”
