HTC continues to listen to developers to improve the product and learn what improvements the second generation will have that could arrive in 2018.

Daniel O’Brien, manager of HTC Vive America, has unveiled how HTC he is facing the next generation of Vive, in an interview with Digital Trends. The key is listen to developers to know what they believe are the most beneficial improvements for the new viewer, and thus be able to determine how it will be and when it will reach the market. “It’s not about choosing a time frame and production cycle, it’s about delivering truly meaningful innovation that helps the developer community create compelling new experiences,” O’Brien explains.

Since the arrival of HTC Vive, more than a year ago, the Taiwanese company has been improving the product in different aspects such as cable, base stations, a lower weight and a more practical box. “There’s no problem with offering a lighter cable that makes it more comfortable, but when it comes to a big jump like resolution, then we’re talking about new products,” adds O’Brien. Despite this, Vive will receive a series of additions that will improve the current device with features apparently of a new generation of viewers, such as eye tracking or wireless.

TPCast, a company belonging to the ViveX program, is one of the manufacturers that is offering an accessory that turns our viewer into wireless, and according to Daniel, having no cables will be optional for consumers, but that later in 2018, will be an expected feature. Which could mean that the next generation of Vive would arrive sometime in 2018.
