According to eMarketer, Sony’s viewfinder accounted for more than 90% of shipments in Japan, despite having arrived months later than other companies’ devices.

The data comes from an analysis carried out at the end of the last quarter of 2016 by the International Data Corporation. The results, which include shipments to consumers and non-consumers, reflect Sony’s advantage in that period.
Sony is a Japanese company that knows the sector very well and that initially had a large user base that already had the necessary hardware to make the leap to virtual reality and at a more affordable price than on other platforms. In the IDC report, Sony leads shipments, followed by Samsung, HTC and Oculus, and highlights the importance that the entertainment sector will have in the mass adoption of virtual reality.
