It would have a crew of six people on a mission of one Martian year (1000 days), which would consist of analyzing the surface and finding the best places to explore, as the preamble of a human expedition to the red planet. The crew members would use vehicles and robots directing them from the orbiting base. To this end, Lockheed Martin is developing its own immersive technology through virtual reality. They also plan to integrate artificial intelligence technology. It is planned that samples of earth and rocks from surface vehicles will be sent to the orbital station for analysis for signs of life.
The station will be able to stay above a point on the surface for in-depth analysis using roverts and unmanned aircraft. They even plan to use small robots to explore the lava tubes and cliffs.
