Sony has revealed more details about the hardware of the PS VR2 and this includes new technology in its lenses
There is some good news for users who are thinking of buying a PS VR2; Sony has released more information about the specifications of the virtual reality headset and they are very impressive.
The official website confirmed that the PlayStation VR2 headset will have two 2,000 x 2,040 OLED screens that will be able to offer 4K HDR up to 120fps. That’s four times the resolution of the original PS VR and they’ll have a 110-degree field of view.
One of the most interesting details that came out is that it will have a fresnel lens, according to Sony. This is very important, as it will influence the image quality of the PS VR2 screens.
FROM A FRENCH LIGHTHOUSE TO YOUR EYES
The fresnel lens was developed by the French physicist Augustin-Jean Fresnel for use in lighthouses and, although the ones that the PS VR2 will have will be much smaller, the basic principle is the same: they allow making much thinner lenses thanks to their striped designs.
The first generation PS VR is one of the few virtual reality headsets that does not use fresnel lenses and including them in the PS VR2, on two separate screens, will make it easier for us to see perfect images, without causing problems such as the edges of the screens sticking out.
By turning the adjustment dial, you will be able to move the lenses to the right point for your eyes, offering the best possible image. I have checked this in the Oculus Quest 2 and it works really well. It’s a huge improvement over the PS VR and is likely to appear in the AR/VR headset from Apple.
