Becoming an astronaut, exploring the pyramids of Egypt, swimming with sharks and much more, are the things that a group of elderly women have been able to live in the offices of Google Spain, thanks to virtual reality.
Today is the International Women’s Day and to celebrate Google it has included a Doodle with a tribute to heroines such as astronaut Sally Ride, pilot Loftia ElNadi, and archaeologist Halet Çambel, who managed to achieve what they set out to do. Google Spain has joined the celebration by bringing together a group of grandmothers from the Friends of the Elderly Foundation in their offices in Madrid where, thanks to virtual reality, they were able to put themselves in the shoes of these women for a day.
“This is my first time in Egypt. On the right I’m looking at a camel. I love it!”, commented one of them while enjoying a walk through the pyramids of Egypt, thanks to Cardboard.
The reactions caused by experiencing this new medium for the first time are usually the most striking, and is that these ladies have been able to explore the solar system, know what it feels like behind the wheel of a race car and even be scuba divers and swim with sharks. “I can’t swim,” one of them said before putting on her glasses. “After seeing what I’ve seen, there’s not going to be anything like it. This is gorgeous!”, concluded one of them.
