Chia-lin Chang, HTC’s chief financial officer, has commented in an interview with CNET that they will combine virtual reality with mobility, and it will not be inserting a phone into a case.
HTC he has commented to CNET that they are preparing a new mobile virtual reality product. The interview took place during the launch event of its new phone, in Singapore. This new device will be compatible with the company’s new flagship, the U Ultra, but it will not be a simple viewer like Gear VR, HTC says. “We have a good plan in terms of combining mobility with VR,” said Chia-lin Chang, HTC’s chief financial officer. “Vive is high-end. In the coming months you will see our plans in terms of mobility and virtual reality, and it will not be a phone glued to a viewer. It will be something different.”In addition, he noted that the mysterious product will be released before the end of the year.
Since they intend to launch something different from Gear VR, this new device could be autonomous and that the compatibility with the U Ultra terminal was for certain functions, or that the phone in this case made a PC and will connect to the viewer via some cable to transmit the image. This last approach would be similar to the approach that LG presented with its HMD for the G5. HTC’s move is a totally natural step for a company dedicated to mobility, which has taken a change to also become a virtual reality company, fully committed to the success of this technology.
