Digi-Capital claims that augmented reality was the main protagonist of the investments made last year, obtaining Magic Leap a total of 3 out of every 10 dollars invested.

Digi-Capital it has published a report in which it reviews the state of the investments carried out, throughout this first commercial year of these technologies.  “Virtual reality will be big, augmented reality will be bigger and it will take longer,” Digi-Capital notes that this statement has become quite widespread. Last year was the take-off and a total of 2300 million were invested that we can see distributed in the following graph where augmented reality was the great protagonist with almost 50% of the total.

This amount of money invested in 2016, triples that invested the previous year, so there has been a growth of 300% in just 12 months. An impressive figure for any sector, and even more so if we take into account that this is a market that has just started. At the beginning of 2016, Magic Leap closed an operation of almost 800 million dollars, followed by ODG and Meta that got 4 out of every 10 dollars to be invested in augmented reality. Services and solutions were also another important sector with 2 of every 10 dollars of what was invested, being Unity with 181 million the largest investment.

Companies dedicated to VR video also got 1 out of every 10 dollars, with NextVR with 80 million dollars the most outstanding. Hardware companies got 200 million, and peripheral and gaming companies got a total of 100 million. Finally, those dedicated to advertising and marketing totaled $80 million.

The companies that made investments were names such as Alibaba, Warner Bros, Google, Qualcomm, Fidelity, J. P. Morgan, Morgan Stanley, T. Rowe Price, Wellington, CIC, Intel, Amazon, Fidelity, CITIC, NetEase, Softbank, 21st Century Fox, MGM, Lenovo, Tencent, Comcast, Samsung, and HTC, among others. Digi-Capital comments that this year it will be interesting to see how the market evolves and responds, but that no matter what happens in the short term, in the long term the future is bright. In addition to everything mentioned, Digi-Capital has published a pyramid with the leaders of these technologies where it should be noted that the Spanish company Neurodigital appears in it.
