Sixa launches the pre-purchase of its adapter, limited to 4000 units, which allows you to use Oculus Rift or HTC Vive without cables, for a price of $ 199 for the belt version or $ 209 for the head.

Company Sixa it has put on sale its solution capable of eliminating the cables of our PC HMD thanks to its own video compression and streaming technology by WiFi (2.4 Ghz – 5 Ghz). We can make the reservation of any of the two versions available for 60 dollars, since the rest will be paid once the shipment of the product is made at the end of spring. The shipping costs are free of charge. RivVR it is available with two mounts, one for the head for $ 209 and the other for the belt for $ 199, it is also possible to choose the type of 3-hour or 6-hour battery, with the 6-hour one having an additional cost of $ 50 over the previous prices. The head-mounted version comes with short cables to replace the long HTC Vive cables.

RivVR weighs 544 grams with the 3-hour battery and 635 with the 6-hour battery, which gives a total weight of 1099 grams or 1190 grams for the combination of HTC Vive plus RivVR on the head. The adapter has been designed to fit and mount easily. According to Sixa, the latency added by the device is totally imperceptible, which allows you to enjoy any content completely free of cables, and being our only space limit as far as the WiFi signal reaches.

In an interview with tom’s Hardware, Sixa has commented that its technology is capable of compressing an HDMI signal that can exceed 10Gbps to one of 40Mbps, easily sent via WiFi. Ievgen Nechayev, CTO of Sixa, pointed out that, currently, it introduces an additional latency of 11ms, but they expect that for the commercial kit it will be reduced to just 6ms. Other competitors such as TPCast proclaim an additional latency of only 2ms, but in the case of TPCast it requires a visual line with the receiver. Sixa also comments that they are working on a solution that allows having a server that provides the independent signal to 16 viewers.

The pre-purchase is limited to 4000 units, so once they are reached it will no longer be possible to make the reservation, all in order to be able to cope with shipments at the end of spring.
