Ubisoft will support cross-platform play in its line of virtual reality titles starting today with Eagle Flight, which will allow Oculus Rift and PlayStation VR users to share flight, and from December 20 also on HTC Vive.

Eagle Flight is the first title with which Ubisoft has introduced itself to virtual reality, a game that puts us in the plumage of a bald eagle to cross the skies of an abandoned Paris that has succumbed to wild vegetation, and whose analysis you can find here. Today it is news because it will become the first of the company to have cross-game support, which allows from this very moment users of Oculus Rift, PlayStation VR and HTC Vive (the latter on December 20) to enjoy multiplayer games together regardless of the platform they have chosen to play. Werewolves Within and Star Trek: Bridge Crew will also have support from the day of their launch, next week in the case of the first, coinciding with the launch of Oculus Touch, and on March 14 for the Star Trek cooperative game.

“Making our VR titles cross-platform has always been one of our goals from the beginning. Our games have a solid multiplayer experience, so allowing friends to play together regardless of the HMD they have will improve the social nature of our games and make them play the way we have imagined,” said David Votypka, creative director at Ubisoft Red Storm.

It is nice to see that, while some strive to highlight the differences between the different virtual reality platforms praising some and belittling others, it is the software companies themselves who give a real lesson and strive so that all virtual reality users, whatever their platform, can enjoy this wonderful technology together. And it is that, no matter how much some try, there are many more things that unite us all than those that separate us.
