Codemasters Racing continues on the path started with Grid Autosport, and its new driving title, DiRT Rally, has arrived on Steam Early Access (the company’s first game to do so) and also comes with native support for Oculus Rift.

The DiRT saga has been around for a few years now, when it still bore the name of the ill-fated Colin McRae. To date we had been able to play some of its previous installments with Oculus Rift thanks to programs like Vireio and OpenTrack, but fortunately Codemasters is taking virtual reality seriously and it’s nice to see how the game has native support, even in its first Early Access version on Steam.

The game starts in Oculus Rift mode simply by having it connected and configured in direct mode. Because of the little we have been able to prove, there is still work to be done, but everything will be fine. The menus are in 2D but they are manageable, since the game shows a mirror window on the monitor of our PC. The first thing we have noticed is that the headtracking has too much sensitivity, the scale is incorrect and the game is not in 3D, since apparently it does not read our Oculus profile. In this Reddit thread they are commenting on the problems and how to solve them, but it is to be hoped that from this very moment until the release of the final version of the game, they will be solved.

At the moment we have 17 cars and 36 scenarios available, the rest will arrive little by little. To be early access it looks a pretty polished title, they have even included the Spanish dubbing already. Undoubtedly, fans of the saga are in luck, and we hope that future Codemasters Racing titles, including the upcoming F1, will continue to support virtual reality.
