The new version of Vireio offers us a proposal tremendously curious: the possibility of using the absolute positioning, so that when agacharnos physically or jump, Vireio send the game the key equivalent, which opens a wide range of possibilities to play standing up.
It seems to us a curious option, to say the least, much more now that we are all thinking about the topic of virtual reality standing after what we have seen in the last GDC. Vireio 2.1.4 also incorporates support for new titles, including a classic like Far Cry. This is the list of changes and what’s new:
- Full support for the 64-bit version of Outlast (created VR Boost profile)
- Full support for Far Cry
- Full support for The Old City: Leviathan
- Implemented support for crouching and covering ourselves – Position-based mechanics that emulates the pressing of a key depending on the height of the player. It works for bending, lying down and jumping. Recommended for players who play standing up.
- Corrections and adjustments to current scanners.
Looking to the future, the creators of Vireio are working on version 2.2.0 that will include very appetizing features, such as the possibility of offering a smooth and fluid experience in those games that do not easily reach 75 fps (for example Skyrim). We don’t know how they will do it, but it seems that in internal tests they are getting very good results, so we hope that this new version will see the light soon.
