Disney considers virtualizing its theme parks

If we want to visit a Disney theme park, it is possible that in a while we will be able to do it without having to leave home, since the studio is considering offering versions of its parks in virtual reality.

One of the possibilities offered by virtual reality is to visit remote or science fiction sites, and it seems that Disney thinks it could be a good source of income. Bei Yang, one of the company’s creatives, is convinced that Disneyland can coexist together with a virtual recreation of itself.

“If you think about the way we approach technology in general, The Walt Disney Company does it by creating content,” Yang says. “It’s about making connections between friends and family through stories. We can do this through various means, and virtual reality is one more.”

Thanks to virtual reality, Disney could offer virtual attractions that are impossible to physically realize. And although the real experience of visiting a park cannot be compared to the virtual one, a similar analogy could be drawn to the feeling of watching a movie at home or in the cinema. It’s not the same, but at least we can enjoy the story.
