San Francisco The US short message service Twitter is reachable for most users after a worldwide outage. This is according to data from the website on Thursday Downdetector.com which collects outage reports from various sources. According to the website, at 15:00 (CEST), only 2000 people in the United States reported problems with the social network. An hour earlier, there had been more than 54,000 users. Twitter indicated on its status dashboard that it was investigating issues with some of its programming interfaces. It was also reported in other countries such as the UK, Mexico, Brazil and Italy that Twitter was not functioning normally.
The cause of the outage remained unclear at first. “Some of you are having trouble accessing Twitter and we are working to make it work for everyone again. Thank you for being loyal to us,” the social media company said in a tweet. Brian Fitzgerald, an analyst at Well Fargo Securities, told Reuters that Twitter is hosted on Amazon Web Services and has been using the Google Cloud platform as a second provider since 2018. “There doesn’t seem to be a problem with its cloud providers as other services continue to run,” Fitzgerald stressed.
Most recently, Twitter was affected by a similar outage in February. At the time, the company said it had fixed a software bug in its microblogging website.
