Through social networks, Geoff Keighley confirmed that The Game Awards 2022 will be held next Thursday, December 8, at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California, United States. This will be the ninth edition of these video game awards and will be broadcast on more than 40 digital platforms around the world, such as YouTube, Twitch, Twitter, Facebook and TikTok Live, for millions of viewers.

This new edition of The Game Awards will come with a new award, best adaptation. This category will celebrate the product, which can be a movie, broadcast program, podcasts, novel or comic, among others, that best translates a video game IP.
“The Best Adaptation Award is a way for the video game industry and its fans to take their hats off to creative work that authentically adapts and often adds tradition and context to our favorite game franchises,” Geoff Keighley told Deadline. “With so many game-inspired projects in entertainment, the time is right to honor excellence in adapting the worlds of video games to other media.”
In addition, for the second year in a row, The Game Awards will be held in person, after a couple of years when the event was purely digital.
