Shipments of TVs fell by 1%

Поставки телевизоров сократились на 1%

Delivery of television to the world market in the second quarter of 2011 decreased by 1% compared to the same period last year to 55.5 million units, according to analysts DisplaySearch.

For comparison, in the second quarter of 2010, growth in shipments year-on-year was 26% and in IV quarter of last year grew by 15%. At the beginning of this year, the growth rate has slowed sharply, amounting to just one
the percentage in the second quarter was negative.

The decrease in deliveries in the second quarter of 2011 was the result of falling demand in the developed regions – the United States and Western Europe. Delivery TV in these regions in a 3-month period decreased by 6% compared to a year
to year. At the same time, demand in developing countries grew by 3%, although this was not enough to fully offset the decline. In turn, low growth in the early years was
due to the oversupply of stocks.

The negative trend is partly due to the fact that the comparison is performed with a high base in the second quarter shipments increased by 26% to 56.2 million units in the period of preparation for the world Cup
football, which took place in June – traditionally the demand for display devices increases before major sporting events. In may, us researched and even reported a decline in interest in
TV as such.

Decreased demand for LCD technology, a key growth factor. During the specified period of supply of LCD TVs increased by 6%, while in 2010 on a quarterly basis, this segment would add at least 20%. With
the transition from lamp to led lighting, leading to higher prices and also due to the fact that the cost of parts for TVs remained at the old values, in the II quarter of the price
factor has not played a significant role.

Among all aimed in distribution channels LCD TV 43% were equipped with LED-backlit. In the same period of 2010 they accounted for 18%. On average, LED-backlight increases the cost of the TV
74%, regardless of the diagonal. A year ago, the allowance was equal to approximately 120%.

Segment of the plasma screen after double-digit growth throughout 2010 decreased by 6%. Last year, sales of TVs grew due to the fact that the cost of comparable models of the diagonals
was lower compared to LCD TVs. In the II quarter of 2011 this difference decreased to 1% vs. 13% a year ago. At equal prices, consumers prefer LCD.

CRT TV continues to die: the reduction of supply was 31% after 32% in the previous quarter. The proportion of 3D TVs in the total volume of all device types was 9%, twice as much compared to
the beginning of the year.

The leading market in terms of supply is China (17%), followed by North America. Deliveries to China increased by 20%. In North America decreased by 6%. In Japan, grew 40%. In Japan
the end of July passed the switch-off of analogue broadcasting, and consumers were actively purchased new TVs with digital tuners.
