Facebook купил шведский картографический стартап Mapillary

Mapillary is based in malmö in 2013. Startup has created a platform to display streets with the help of photos uploaded by private users.

Computer vision image defines what it is, and allows developers to include this information in your own maps.

Mapilary data will help Facebook to improve the maps and make them more accurate.

The purchase was announced Thursday in a blog Mapillary. The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

According to the startup tracker Crunchbase, over the last seven years Mapillary has attracted from investors of USD 24.5 million. The money invested by Sequoia Capital, Atomico and BMW iVentures.

Apple and Google have invested heavily in mapping, but Facebook all this time stayed away.

Mapillary users will still be able to upload images and to use the data service for their own purposes.

However, there is one change. Previously, users could not use the images on Mapillary platform for commercial purposes. Now this opportunity is free of charge.
