A new strategy for Plastic Logic| 17.05.2012
The company Plastic Logic introduces the new business strategy. It involves the rejection of the formation of a production holding “full cycle” focused on the publication and promotion of the same species
products – e-books. Instead, the company, using its experience in the production of flexible plastic displays, intends to focus on designing and manufacturing a wide range of solutions
for existing and future electronic devices. It is as flexible and high impact displays in a variety of sizes that can replace traditional paper format, and absolutely
new applications of plastic electronics. It is planned to widely use the technology licensing of production of high impact plastic displays and software for
control and image optimization.
The output of the final goods to market will be carried out jointly with partners from contract manufacturers of microelectronic components, system integrators and device manufacturers. In
the moment the company is in talks with several producers, including licensing of technology.
Under the new strategy, the company will retain R&D center in Cambridge, and production facilities in Dresden. Unit in the United States, responsible for product development, will be closed. The decision on the timing
construction enterprises in Russia will be made after definition of the list and volumes of new products. Meanwhile, it is planned to expand research center in the field
plastic electronics.
The development of the new strategy of the company began on the initiative of the General Director of Plastic Logic Indro of Mukerji, appointed to this position in September 2011, and was supported by the key
investors RUSNANO and Oak Investment Partners. It takes into account a significant breakthrough in the development of plastic electronics technology, which the company has made in the last year. In particular, on the products
Plastic Logic, the world’s first implemented the ability to display color images of high resolution.
The lifetime of the displays exceeds 5 years and 10 million page updates, and the update frequency of the screen during the demonstration of video animation, as well as indicators of “yield” has reached the level
industry LCD displays. Finally, on the basis of the first plant in the world of organic electronics company Plastic Logic in Dresden, launched mass production of devices with a durable, thin and light display
with a diagonal of 10.7”.
