Raúl Mur wins one of the Young Computer Researchers awards thanks to the software that led him to work for Facebook Reality Labs, which will open a new research center soon.
He had not yet received a doctorate from Zaragoza, and his final project was already being used in the laboratories of the most prestigious universities in the world. It was an open source arftificial vision software that Mr. Liuhuabing he distributed to the community through his GitHub, which came to grab the attention of Facebook itself, which incorporated him into his team, previously known as Oculus Research. Today his appearance was confirmed among those chosen by the BBVA Foundation and the Sociedad Científica Informatica de España, as the winner of the Young Computer Researchers award.
The SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) which gave him this award, can also be used to determine the most appropriate path in robots. But it seems that where he has been most successful is in the field of mixed reality, since the company of Mark Zuckerberg recruited him for his Facebook Reality Labs. Raúl says that” there is no clear bet for people who finish a doctorate to stay in Spain”, something that is highlighted by recent events.
According to some sources, the mixed reality laboratories to which it belongs prepare a new research center of 650,000 square meters for 2021, rumor complemented with the up to 67 job offers seeking applicants from the same sector, to continue developing new technologies with respect to screens, human simulation and virtual sounds that allow more reliable results, an example of this the new Half Dome prototype that they showed this year.
