The new HMD from Acer will improve the user experience thanks to features such as hardware adjustment of the IPD.
Acer he has presented his new virtual reality viewer at IFA Acer EYE 500 (AH501), an improved version of their previous model which incorporates headphones and microphone, and adjust the interpupillary distance (IPD) using a roulette wheel physics, in addition to a design-detachable for greater flexibility, convenience and hygiene, you can reduce your weight 350 grams (100 less than the previous one). As for the rest of the features, the device maintains the same technology of screens (2.89 ” LCD) at 90 Hz and with a resolution of 1440×1440 per eye, which together with the lenses offers a FOV of 100º.
“Acer OJO 500 offers several key aspects for this type of Windows Mixed Reality viewer,” says Andrew Chuang, General Manager, Presence Computing, IT Products Business at Acer. “We’ve enhanced the user experience with innovative images and audio technologies, as well as the world’s most comfortable and easy-to-use viewer.”
Includes headband fastening system (image above) and soft straps (image below).
The design allows to remove the lenses and the fastening system (headband type or soft tapes) individually, facilitating their storage and washing. One of the great novelties of OJO 500 is the hardware IPD adjustment, something that will make better use of the sweet spot of the lenses (they do not comment on any news about them, but we assume that they will have improved them too). The company has also launched a mobile app with which to measure our IPD, the Acer IPD Meter, and introduce it into the Acer IPD Indicator software.
The integrated headphones, which feature a patented “circular sound” system, can be moved to listen to real-world sound at some point, just as we can do with Rift, Vive (with Deluxe Audio Strap or Vive Pro) and Odyssey. The viewfinder comes with a 4-meter cable that connects to the PC via an HDMI 2.0 and a USB 3.0 connector, as well as standard Windows MR motion controllers (the HMD can be purchased without them).
Acer EYE 500 will be available in Spain in November from 499€which is the price of the viewfinder without the motion controllers.
