Berlin The story: In the year 2030, players will compete as ambitious roller skaters in the trend sport “Rollerdrome”. In addition to roller skates, dangerous firearms are also carried here. Because in order to become a champion, opponents must also be killed while driving. And that’s not all the new gladiatorism: the organizer, the stone-rich company Matterhorn, also has evil intentions with the Rollerblade league.
Unusual graphic style
The competitions take place in different arenas such as sports stadiums, but also deserts or shopping centers. Even before you even get to the gameplay, the graphic style probably catches your eye directly: with visible pencil outlines and shadows, “Rollerdrome” looks more like a comic or cartoon. However, it is a video game with three-dimensional environments – you don’t often see that on the console.
Once the shoes are put on, there is little time for breaks. In each round you are constantly on the move, and you have to dodge the shooting opponents with tricky stunts at the same time and eliminate them in return. If this becomes too difficult, the reflex mode helps, which reduces the game speed for a short time and simplifies aiming and stunt combining.
Is fast, is fun
Despite a rather simplistic story and sometimes difficult opponents, “Rollerdrome” gets a lot of things right with its ideas. Because the roller skating competition, which is as fast as it is bloody, offers a challenge like hardly any other game in any case. “Rollerdrome” is available for PC and PlayStation 4 and 5. Cost: Around 30 euros.
