The real experience will be mixed with the virtual one to offer a new type of attraction where players will compete against each other and against big robots.
The amusement park Erlebnispark Schloss Thurn, located in Heroldsbach (Germany), has announced the arrival in April of Steampunk Electric Scooter, a new installation that will combine the real experience of bumper cars with virtual reality, thus offering something unique to its visitors. It’s not the first time we’ve seen VR integrate into classic attractions to create new types of experiences, some examples being roller coasters and even water park rapids.
As they share, the experience takes place in a virtual area set in the wild west with large cliffs and precipices. Our objective, once on our real vehicle, will be to hunt down the rest of the cars and destroy the giant robots that cross our path, something that we can do alone or working as a team with our colleagues. To the experience will also be added improvements and virtual extras that will allow us to enjoy advantages in the game.
“The combined experience of the Coaster and Holodeck VR teams has allowed us to create a completely new interactive VR driving experience,” says park owner Benedict Graf von Bentzel.
As for the technical details, we have no information on what kind of technologies they will use, the only thing they share is that the speed of vehicles in the virtual world will be faster than that of real cars, plus that the arena where they will compete will seem much larger than real space.
Steampunk VR Scooter will be available on April 13th.
