Another important operating system that was revealed at WWDC 2023 was the macOS update, which this time is called Sonoma. This time the changes were rather minor, but they open the door for new opportunities.
The most important detail of macOS Sonoma is that widgets can be placed directly on the desktop. In addition, as in iOS and iPadOS, they are now interactive. One interesting thing is that the widgets become transparent when you have something in the foreground, to avoid being distracted.
On the other hand, a new approach to gaming was also revealed: a new game mode was added that can reduce latency and input lag, by focusing all the performance of the machine on the game. In fact, Hideo Kojima made a surprise appearance at the event, where he revealed that he is working on porting DEATH STRANDING to macOS. In addition, it was revealed that several big-name games, such as No Man’s Sky, Stray and Resident Evil Village, will also be coming eventually.
On the subject of video conferences, there are minor additions, such as the possibility of adding cinematic reactions or pasting the speaker as if he had a green background, so that the presentation he is making is in front or in the background.
macOS Sonoma is coming this fall, for Macs from 2017 or newer.
