Artificial Intelligence in the most unexpected places. Do you like horses? If so, in this post we will tell you how AI applications have landed in the equine world.
It is clear that the development of AI and Big Data technologies has been the trigger for the new industrial revolution. This has led to countless applications even in industries that apparently have little to do with technology. Today we will talk about a very curious one. The world of horses. Today, Artificial Intelligence has even reached the stables!
We already know how AI has crossed a critical threshold in communication and is able to process natural forms of communication in the real world, such as speech, written language and vision. This fact has given rise to interesting applications in all kinds of industries.
However, until very recently, some sectors had been left ” out of the game”. It is precisely these “niches” that detect and cover startups such as Magic AI who has developed an AI platform for data and nonverbal forms of communication between people and animals.
This young startup has developed a product called Stablegard which aims to improve the performance of competition horses, by means of a 24/7 video monitoring system of the stables. The system collects and analyzes data on the comfort and health status of animals to detect abnormal behaviors as soon as possible that can end up impacting the welfare and safety of horses. For example, the temperature of the stable, if the animals are covered by blankets when necessary, if they show any signs of stress, if they have enough water and food, if a foal is about to be born, if the stables are clean, etc.

To analyze this data, it uses a hybrid neural network consisting of combined “standard” convolutional layers with an innovative dispersion transformer, which enables intelligent image processing and generates highly accurate behavioral predictions.
In this example, AI applies to the world of horses, probably because the startup’s drivers are horse-riding enthusiasts. However, the same system, with some modification, may also be applied to other types of stabled animals.
As you can see, AI applications … have no limits. (To the Universe and beyond!).
