Did you know that … you can blog to SharePoint directly from Word…
Many get frustrated with the blog functionality of SharePoint, since formatting text is not as easy as in Word. Adjusting text, inserting images, m.v. can’t be done with particularly advanced functionality in SharePoint and one yearns for the rich options available in Word.
Many just do not know that Word 2007 and Word 2010 actually give us the opportunity to write our blog post directly in Word, and then publish the post to SharePoint. There is even full support for automatic uploading of the images you choose to insert into your blog post.
Here’s how…
A prerequisite is, of course, that a blog site has already been created on your SharePoint portal. Open Word and select New and then Blog post (there may be some differences in where to find this template, but it is available by default in Word 2007 and Word 2010).
Word will ask if you want to register a blog account right away. You can do this now or wait until you want to publish your blog post. You can also have multiple blog accounts, and thus blog from Word to multiple SharePoint blogs. You can even use Word to write your blog posts for example. for WordPress.
The ribbon adapts, but the rich text editing tools from Word are fully available. You can now write your blog post, insert pictures and tables, m.v. You can save the blog post as a normal Word document and write it finished another day.
When you have finished your post, simply choose to publish your post by using the button in the ribbon. If you have not already registered a blog account, do so now. You simply select SharePoint blog from the menu and then paste the URL of that blog site. Your post is published immediately (however, you can also choose to publish only a draft) and any images you have inserted are automatically uploaded to the image library available on the blog site.
You can actually also manage categories for your blog posts once you have registered a blog account.
