New York / Bochum Another advantage of the paid version of ChatGPT Plus is early access to future new features and improvements, as the developer company OpenAI announced in a blog post on Thursday night.
ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence-based software that has been trained to imitate human speech on huge amounts of texts and data. OpenAI made ChatGPT publicly available last year, sparking admiration for the software’s capabilities and also concern.
Worry about counterfeit attempts with ChatGPT
ChatGPT can imitate human language so well that there are concerns, among other things, that it could be used to cheat on school and university theses or that disinformation campaigns could be created on a large scale. This week, therefore, OpenAI introduced a program that is supposed to recognize texts written by computers.
The large rush of users in recent weeks temporarily overloaded the system. Customers of ChatGPT Plus should have no problems with this. The subscription model will initially only be available in the USA, but will be introduced “soon” in other countries. There should continue to be free access to the software, ChatGPT stressed.
The subscription revenue should finance it for as many users as possible. OpenAI also has a multibillion-dollar deal with Microsoft, in which the group integrates the company’s programs into its cloud platform. For example, ChatGPT should also be integrated into Microsoft’s search engine Bing, the Silicon Valley website “The Information” reported back in January.
ChatGPT is also becoming more and more well-known in Germany. According to a survey, every fourth person in Germany who uses the Internet at least occasionally now knows the software or is already using it.
In the “opinion monitor Artificial Intelligence” of the Bochum research institution CAIS (Center for Advanced Internet Studies), only three percent of the respondents said that they regularly use ChatGPT. However, eight percent have already tried the chat robot. And 17 percent have at least heard about it already.
ChatGPT is mainly used privately
According to the survey, the private use of the AI-based language model is in the foreground for users who use the language software regularly or even only occasionally. A quarter of the users therefore use the chatbot professionally. Only about 11 percent of this group use ChatGPT for school, education or studies. If we look at the group of regular users, a different picture emerges: here, almost a third of the use takes place in connection with activities at school or university.
Overall, according to the survey, the majority of people in Germany are positive about ChatGPT’s technology. More than half of the respondents say that they are impressed by the technology. This group sees the potential of ChatGPT for support in many areas positively. However, almost 50 percent of the respondents are also worried about possible effects on the workplace or a displacement of humans by machines. Around 48 percent of the respondents are concerned about the protection of their own privacy and possible violations of data protection regulations.
