Cmoar has launched a Kickstarter campaign for a device that, at first glance, powerfully catches our attention. It combines a virtual reality viewer, 2D 3D in the same device, uses our smartphone and has integrated sensors to offer the best possible experience.

Cmoar is compatible with smartphones whose screen size is between 4 and 5.7″, which covers more than 150 devices and practically all mid- and high-end terminals. Far from manufacturing a case to insert the phone, Cmoar has added the possibility of using 3 fronts: one dedicated to virtual reality, another to viewing 3D content and the last to view 2D content in full screen with a gigantic Fresnel lens, a very well thought out option since it allows us to view our 2D movies without sacrificing an iota of quality.

The lenses of the virtual reality front are 45mm in diameter and offer an FOV of 105º, a higher figure than usual (remember that Gear VR offers 96º and the DK2 around 100º). We can adjust the focal length using a wheel, with which users with myopia will have adjustments so they don’t have to use their glasses. In addition, Cmoar integrates a 1000 Hz sensor that can be used by the programs developed with its SDK, or the phone if we use standard SBS or Cardboard applications. Cmoar also integrates controls in the case itself, similar to those offered by Gear VR, which will allow us to control applications without the need to use an external controller.

And if we prefer to use an external controller, Cmoar also offers us its own one with an elongated shape and that is operated with one hand, very similar to the Playstation Move. But it is not the only accessory, since we can also acquire a base and an integrated battery with USB port to extend the duration of the experience.

And let’s get to what interests us: the price. For $ 99 we can get the viewer and the adapter for 2D or virtual reality to choose, but for $ 129 we will get the 3 adapters if we are fast enough and we get an early bird kit. Another interesting option is the one that costs $205, since it has everything: the base, the extra battery and the Cmoar controller. All of them include a software package in which we highlight a virtual cinema. The campaign ends on March 30 and its goal is to raise $ 100,000, an objective of which they have achieved the third part in less than 24 hours. And we won’t have to wait long to receive our device, although with Kickstarter it is already known that there may be surprises. The expected delivery date is the month of June.
