Second bombshell news of the week: Codemasters Racing is going to publish in the coming days an update of GRID Autosport to make it compatible with Oculus Rift. At the moment they announce it as experimental support, but the fact that the EGO Engine, which is behind sagas that are already part of history such as Dirt, F1 and even some shooter like two installments of Operation Flashpoint has been adapted to the Oculus SDK makes us rub our hands in the future.
The patch has been self-described by CodeMasters as “PC Patch – The Oculus Rift Edition”, and includes support for Oculus Rift and some optimizations to make the experience work as well as possible, although at the moment the menus are not adapted, as we read in this Codemasters blog post. It seems that they have been working on the update for some time, since they have been based on the SDK 0.4.1 which is not the latest, but they claim that the game will work in direct mode. We will have to be prepared to adjust the level of detail, in fact they recommend that we put it at a minimum and that we start going up little by little, and there are options such as changing the resolution or resizing the window that can hang the game. We’ll take a look at it as soon as they release the update.
