The device, which is based on accessories for our feet and a swivel chair, kicks off its crowdfunding campaign.
The locomotion system of the Austrian company Cybershoes it is now available for purchase via Kickstarter. The device, which allows us to move around the virtual world while sitting, can be purchased for€ 193, although early bird packages allow us to get it for€151. In case of not having a suitable carpet for sliding, the campaign also offers packs that include a round Cybercarpet designed for it.
The Cybershoes package includes a wireless receiver (communicates with the device and connects to the PC via USB) and two accessories that we have to place on our feet using a grip that adapts to any size. At its base they incorporate a wheel that is the one that we slide on the carpet to achieve movement in the virtual world. Cybershoes does not allow side scrolling (strafe) and is used in a swivel chair to have the freedom to rotate at any time. According to the company, we can walk and look the other way while maintaining the direction that our feet mark, since it is able to decouple this movement.
Cybershoes is compatible with any SteamVR application that uses the touchpad or sticks for free movement.
The campaign aims to raise€ 30,000, and shipments of products are scheduled for January next year. In the additional objectives we find functions such as crouching and jumping.
