We have opposing opinions from two greats of the film industry. On the one hand, James Cameron gives some rather curious opinions that we will detail below, but he does not seem too enthusiastic. On the other hand, David Cronenberg has received a visit from the creator of Technolust, who coincidentally lives a couple of streets away, who has shown the DK2 to him and his son.
James Cameron, director of films that have reached the category of legend such as Terminator, Aliens, Abyss, Titanic or Avatar, says that “it seems that there is a great excitement about something that, frankly, makes me yawn. I’ve always wondered when is this technology going to mature? when will it be accepted by the public on a large scale, when will VR content be created and what kind of content will it be?Cameron wonders. “What level of interactivity will we have other than ‘I can be there and look around’? If I want to move in a virtual reality application, that’s called a video game and it’s been around for years.” It is logical that he wonders when there will be more content, although we are surprised that a person who is pushing for technologies such as 3D and HFR to have more relevance in Hollywood says that virtual reality makes him yawn.
On the other hand, David Cronenberg, director of titles such as La Mosca (The Fly) or Una historia de violencia, has received the visit of the creator of Technolust in his own home, since they are practically neighbors. Both David and his son Brandon were enthusiastic about the demo and talked about very interesting topics such as presence for about 2 hours, and he was especially interested in technical aspects such as the resolution of each eye and the refresh rate.
