In 2017, Danes have once again been active consumers when it comes to e-commerce. Since 2013, Danish e-commerce has increased by 78%, which must be said to be a very satisfactory figure for the Danish wepshops. The growing interest in online commerce was particularly evident on the 24th. november, which is officially known as Black Friday.
Increasing online shopping
According to Statistics Denmark, 3.4 million Danes between the ages of 16 and 89 buy goods or services on the internet. When Danish consumers start shopping, it happens to more than half of the Danes at least three to four times a month.
It is especially travel-related products such as train, bus and air tickets as well as hotel stays that the Danes spend the most money on. In addition, Danes are increasingly happy to buy more physical products and services online. These two categories have had the largest growth since 2016 of 35 and 34 percent respectively.
Due to this increasing use of e-commerce, it is no surprise that Black Friday in 2017 again broke a record both in physical stores and online. The total consumption was DKK 2.1 billion., which is an increase of almost six percent compared to 2016.
According to Berlingske Business, 13.6 percent of all trades on Black Friday in 2017 were conducted online. This is a significant increase as, according to DIBS, 46% more transactions completed online were seen compared to Black Friday in 2016. That’s why Black Friday 2017 has so far been the best week ever in Danish e-commerce.
Men vs. women as online consumers
When you look at who exactly is contributing to this significant increase in e-commerce, it is both men and women – typically between the ages of 16-44. For the age group above, the figures are beginning to decline, but it does indicate that an increasing proportion of older people are also using e-commerce.
Families with young children are the category that shop most often on the internet, whereas families without children and pensioners shop the fewest times on the internet a month. Moreover, women shop more often online, but men spend a larger amount when these shop.
The average Danish consumer uses the shopping budget, among other things, is spent on air tickets and hotels. At the same time, many prefer to use the mobile when buying buy clothes, shoes and accessories or other things on the web. At the same time, studies show that many consumers have discontinued a purchase online because it was too cumbersome. This indicates that Danish consumers have become more aware when shopping online.
Why e-commerce?
There are several reasons why Danish consumers are increasingly shopping online. 69 percent do it because they think it’s time-saving and easy, while 55 percent are looking for lower prices. 38 percent believe that there is a wider range and that the products sought can always be found on the net.
These parameters apply regardless of the goods in question. In these winter months, it is extremely important to keep your car safe due to the sometimes challenging weather.
