The Norwegian startup Activetainment has presented at CES 2015 a prototype of a spectacular exercise bike that will allow us to travel virtual circuits with our Oculus Rift while exercising.
The truth is that calling it a stationary bicycle may not be very appropriate because it actually moves quite in sync with what we see on the screen built-in, making us feel that we walk in different circuits of varied environments, with the interesting possibility to compete in multiplayer mode with other users.
The B/01 not only tilts up, down and to the sides depending on the terrain we are driving on, but also regulates the resistance to pedaling depending on the inclination of the section we are going down. It incorporates a 14″ touchscreen on which we can view the route in 3D, in addition to all kinds of statistics, but the most interesting thing for visitors to this website is its compatibility with Oculus Rift that takes the experience much further than seeing it on a simple screen. Although that yes, it will be better to protect our Rifles with a good cover so that they do not end up destroyed by sweat.
The video speaks for itself and some of us wish we had one like it as soon as possible, but the bad news is that for now it is not for sale. If everything goes well, they plan to launch it in 2016, but the price will not be exactly economical and they will very possibly aim first at the fitness center market before the domestic one, except for those who can afford the several thousand euros that each one will probably cost.
