Elite Dangerous Beta 3 is already a reality, and it arrives loaded with improvements and news. The most outstanding are the expansion of the available galaxy from 500 to 2400 systems, the possibility of intercepting ships traveling in supercruise, fuel extraction, mining, the possibility of owning several ships and the addition of two new models: Imperial Clipper and Federal Dropship, in addition to countless graphic and performance improvements.
The changes regarding Oculus Rift support are as follows:
-
- Fixed a potential crash when switching from side-by-side 3D mode to Oculus Rift in the menu
-
- The camera in the map view is now “less incorrect” on the Oculus Rift
-
- Adjusted the minimum and maximum distances of the dummy from the dashboard to have the same feeling of size and proximity on the monitor and on the Oculus Rift
-
- When using the Oculus Rift, it is allowed to bring the camera closer to the planets in the map view, hiding the interface when getting as close as possible
-
- It is allowed to resize the mirror window when using Direct Mode [el rendimiento en este modo sigue siendo peor que en extendido]
-
- On the map of the galaxy, the posters are closer to the camera and have a larger scale
-
- The models of the ships on the loading screen move away a little to avoid crossing them if we approach the camera
-
- The system interface is hidden if the distance to the dummy is very small in Oculus Rift mode
As we have clarified in the release notes, the direct mode is still not viable today and it is advisable to use the extended one. The performance has improved even more and it is especially noticeable inside the stations. They are still using the Oculus SDK 0.4.2, so they still do not benefit from the latency reduction that 0.4.3 incorporates, but it is to be expected that they will implement it during the mini-updates that they usually do during the days following the launch of each new beta.
By the way, those worried about preserving what they had in beta 2 can be partly calm, since although we are all starting again with the Sidewinder, the credits corresponding to the ships we had previously have been returned to us, with which we will be able to equip ourselves again without many problems. Although we cannot confirm it, we understand that there will not be a beta 4 and the next version will already be the gamma, which is the one before the final
