The popular space exploration, trading and combat game, after debuting on PC and later arriving on Xbox One, announces its launch on PlayStation 4, and its developers are exploring possible support for PSVR.
Elite Dangerous is one of the most well-known and valued virtual reality experiences in the PC world, so its arrival on PlayStation 4, with special support for PlayStation 4 Pro, made us hope to be able to enjoy the title on PlayStation VR, but the official announcement of the game does not mention Sony’s virtual reality viewer at any time. However, some representatives of the company have spoken out when asked insistently by the community, both in the game forums and on Reddit, and claim that they are looking for a way to bring it to PSVR although they still have nothing to announce about it.
Obviously we love virtual reality, and Elite is one of the first and best (in my opinion) VR games, so we are evaluating it, but we don’t have anything to announce about it yet.
These are the words of Edward Lewis, the Community Manager of Frontier developments, in the game forum. On Reddit we have found a very similar answer:
We have a fantastic title in VR, as we have already verified with Vive and Oculus. We are definitely investigating how to do it, but at the moment we have no news about it. We still have a lot of work to do on the back-end to ensure that any new technology we support maintains our high level of demand.
There is no doubt that Elite Dangerous is one of the games where the limited PSVR resolution would be most noticeable, since the ship’s HUD texts put both Oculus Rift and HTC Vive to the limit, and a large part of PC players choose to lower the graphic level of the game to be able to raise the supersampling level, which has a very noticeable impact on the interface and make the experience gain many integers. So, we will have to wait to see whether or not it is possible for PSVR players to enjoy the Elite Dangerous experience on their systems. Looking at the comments of Frontier representatives, everything indicates that they are going to do their best to get it.
