Here is a guide on how to extend your partitions in Windows. If you, like me, had no more space on the C: drive (system partition), the solution is here. The program is called Partition Wizard home Edition and is free for private use, it works both for Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7. The program also runs on 64 bit systems.

As you can see in the image below, I have almost no more space on my C: drive.

Drive info

1. Download the program here: Partition Wizard Home Edition and install it.

2. Now Start the program and select the partition you want to make smaller, so that you can use that space for your c: drive (system drive). Then press “Move / Resize”

Partition Wizard Home Edition

3. Now you can see how much space is on the partition you want to make smaller.

Move / Resize Partition

4. As you can see I have made the partition approx. 25 GB less, I would then add that to my c: drive (system drive). It is important you run the slider on the left side, otherwise it will not work. The reason for this is that the space that becomes available will fit against your partition to the C: drive.

Move / Resize

5. Now I have so 25 GB “Unallocated“plas free on my hard drive.

Partition Wizard Home

6. Now, select the partition with your c: drive on, this is the one I want to make bigger. Press “Move / Resize”

Partition Wizard Edition

7. As you can see below, it is now possible to run the slider on the right. Here are the 25 GB of space that I freed up before, and so want to make my partition with the C: drive on bigger.

Partition

8. How to now it is driven to the right, press ok.

Resize

9. Now you can see in the overview that the C: drive has become larger and the d: drive smaller.

Partition Edition

10. Pressurize “Yes”

Apply Changes

11. Now it’s running, just wait. :)

Pending Operation

12. You will have to restart your computer as it is the c: drive (system drive) we are tampering with. Pressurize “Restart Now”. It can take several hours to cope with the task, so you just have to wait.

Restart Now

13. As you can now see in the image below, I’ve got a little more space on my c: drive.
