A professional skier will face off against two online players using the Oculus Rift in the first mixed reality race. This is an event organized by 3D LIVE and will be broadcast live during the Munich wearable technologies conference.
Reaching speeds of up to 100 km / h, the professional skier will glide along the ski slope of the world cup held in Schladming, Austria and will use smart glasses that will allow him to see the virtual world next to the real piste. While the virtual players will find themselves in Greece and Germany, using an Oculus Rift, DK1 for the images, which will allow them to compete against each other on the same ski slope in real time.
Without a doubt, these types of events are an opportunity to experience new forms of competition that combine real and virtual interaction. The 3D LIVE experiences have been developed for golf, jogging and now skiing.
This competition is the culmination of an investigation by the commission founded by the 3D LIVE project, a consortium formed by universities and technological institutes from different countries. It can be followed live today, February 3 at 11:10 and 13:35, through this link.
