Goon Squad, a custom map created by Steam Workshop user G Kaf, provides Half-Life: Alyx players with a new experience of playing as a soldier of the Combine, accompanied by two friends trying to get out of an isolated sewer system.
Released almost a year ago, this is a special map for Half-Life: Alyx, which gives you about 30-40 minutes of content similar to the main campaign. Playing as a Combine soldier changes the situation a little, but in the end it has little effect on the gameplay — you will still use gravity gloves and the same weapons, as well as a multifunctional tool for solving puzzles, with only a few comrades from the Combine. as a support.
If you want to get a feel for the map, you can watch the first five minutes of the video below.
These frames should give you an idea of the level of perfection that we are dealing with here — the map not only aesthetically corresponds to most of the Alyx campaign, but also uses several thoughtful design techniques. As for the layout of the map, you often see the next goal before you can reach it, which encourages you to look for ways to it. This is a similar trick used in the main campaign, thanks to which the user map looks quite thoughtful.
About halfway through the map (spoiler alert) you will meet a familiar enemy from the main campaign of Alyx. That’s right, Jeff is back, and he’s doing the same old tricks. As in chapter 7 of the Alyx campaign, you lead him astray by throwing bottles and bricks to distract and confuse him with sound. This time you will also have to solve mini-puzzles, which adds even more interest to the game.
If you are looking for a reliable and fairly short map that offers an addition to the high — quality gameplay of Alyx, as well as the campaign, then Good Squad is a great option. You can subscribe to the card in Steam Workshop.
