When you talk about a home theater, these are two important things you talk about. The projector and the canvas. Today we are going to take a closer look at these things so that you know how to get the best home theater.
But who am I? My Name Is Glen and I work in medieland.dk where we also sell mini projectors and regular projectors. I have worked with IT and engineering such as projectors for 19 years, so I know what I’m talking about
Basics of the projector
You can mount your projector on the ceiling, put it on a table or whatever you think is smartest. In fact, you can get wireless HDMI, so you also don’t have to pull an HDMI cable to your computer or blueray player. Speaking of blueray anyway, you can get anything from HD resolution to 4k resolution, and it’s typically generated by high-resolution LCD or LCOS chips.
You will not find projectors with built-in tv tuner or web streaming apps. It will be the future instead.
Canvas basics
Canvas comes in many sizes and can be available both as rolling out and with fixed frames. One can also completely do without a canvas, if the economy is tight. In this case one can use a white away, which will give an ok result, but certainly not the best.
A new thing is that light gray canvases have started to be used, as they do not give as much glare. Try and see what you like best.
TV vs. Projector
Aside from producing great images, projektore often gives you more value than a flat screen TV…. Especially if you count on the price per inch. You will also not get a re-cut with a projector on your wall, which you will do to some extent with TV.
That said, almost everyone also has a TV, as you do not bother to turn on his projector and possibly roll out his canvas just to watch 5 min tv. However, there is nothing that beats the experience when you put your film on and shoot a huge picture up on your wall.
But is a projector really for you?
I know that right now you are drooling over a nice projector with a huge and fat picture, but is a projector really something for you…..?
There are a few things that you should be aware of, yet you burn the money off on a projector:
- How much light is there in your living room-it should be dim and thus not very much light from the windows and other lighting in the room. So get windows in the room or something you can pull for the windows so that not so much light comes in.In the old days, it should almost be completely dark in the room where you were watching movies with your projector, but a lot has changed and nowadays, it doesn’t have to be so dark. Just obscure.
- How do you want to use your projector-a typical projector lamp has between 2000-5000 hours of operationær except LED which has approx. 30,000 hours. The projector lamp will eventually become weaker and weaker and eventually go out. When this happens, you can change the lamp yourself, because it is not so difficult. On the other hand, they can cost anywhere from 1200 kr and up to 2500 kr. depending on the projector you have.
Often a person who only uses his projector for movies will use it on average
8 hours per week, which gives a lifetime of 4-5 years. But do you use your projector for TV and have it turned on approx. 4 hours a day, then we talk about that your bulb dies within approx. 1 ½ years.
Location of projector
There is no particular way that you should position your projector. There are very different what people think is best. Most people use their projector to watch a movie, or showcase a sporting event. Therefore, there are many who choose to place it on the table or another surface, where you can simply hide it away when you do not need it.
It should be borne in mind that most projectors do not have built-in speakers, so they must be connected with a cable. So you may need to place them near the speakers, and remember not to place them at your head. Most have a fan, which can make a little noise and you do not want to listen to it when watching movies.
Are you a little more engaged in getting the projector set up smartly, then you can put it on the ceiling with a tripod, and then almost everyone can turn the picture so you can see the picture without it being upside down: -)
My last words…. about projectors
When you sit and compare the different projectors and what they can perform, you should keep in mind how big a picture you want. Namely, this will affect the distance between the canvas and the projector. The further you move the projector away, the bigger the picture becomes. This is called “throw-ratio“, and some projectors have a so-called” short throw ratio”, which means that it must stand close to the screen. So have this in mind.
The resolution is also important, and if you are going to use it for the home theater, then it should be at least full HD. You can actually get it all the way up to 4k resolution, which is better than blueray, but personally I think it at the moment is a little “overkill”.
