DC: global smartphone market will shrink in 2020 11.9%Olga Blinkova | 04.06.2020
Experts IDC estimate that the global smartphone market will decline this year by 11.9%. The total number of units sold is expected to be 1.2 billion units.
In the first half of 2020, global smartphone shipments are expected to fall by 18.2%. The main reason is the impact of the pandemic coronavirus and the ensuing economic problems.
It is expected that the market will return to growth before the first quarter of 2021.
Analysts say that the quarantine declared in the different countries of the world and a rising unemployment rate led to lower user demand and reorientation of spending people for the most necessary
products.
However, the researchers expect that the increasing demand for 5G devices will be the driving force that will improve the situation and reverse negative trends.
The sales volume of smartphones in China in 2020 is expected to decline only a few percent. In Europe the situation is worse there, the fall will be in the double digits.
