InfoWatch has released its annual report on data leaks in 2019. For the year 395 recorded cases of information leakage from Russian companies and state bodies, the result was
compromised over 172 million records of personal data and payment information. Thus, in relation to the 2018 spills has increased by 46% and the number of records compromised
user information rose by more than 6 times.
The most common channels of leaks were the Internet (53,4%) and paper (17.5 per cent). More than 10% of the data is drained through the services of instant messages (voice, text, video). At 72.1%
cases, guilty in the leak turned out to be ordinary employees of the companies in 4,6% of cases the top management of organizations, 18.4% are hackers and unknown persons.
The number of leaks Russia for the seventh consecutive year ranked second in the global distribution, often funneling personal data and payment information — of 87.3%. More than half of total
compromised data falls on a single incident, which resulted in the compromise of over 90 million records containing information on legal entities and individuals, because of an error in
the settings of the server operator’s fiscal data “Drimys”.
Almost half of the identified leaks have occurred in the state and municipal authorities, as well as in high-tech industry. Almost every fifth leak of confidential information in Russia
