Austin On the sidelines of the South by Southwest (SXSW) technology festival in Austin, Texas, four people were injured by gunshots. Police in Austin were able to take the alleged shooter into custody about two hours after the crime. Earlier, authorities urged people to avoid the area. The injuries of the victims were not life-threatening, all four were taken to the hospital.
Due to the corona pandemic, the festival has been held virtually in the past two years. In 2019, there were several shootings towards the end of the festival. At the time, Austin’s police chief promised more security for the city’s entertainment district for the future.
The annual festival brings together technology, politics and entertainment, especially in the fields of music, film and interactive media. It was first held in 1987 as a showcase for up-and-coming bands and developed into a major event of international format.
