More and more relevant actors are talking about legislating and putting limits on artificial intelligence. A group of 26 experts has launched a message similar to that of Elon Musk, covering different areas.
Artificial intelligence has always been a branch of technology and computing that has been on everyone’s lips, because we all like to dream about what can be done beyond the capabilities of the human being. Pushing ourselves to our limits is very tempting, but it is even more tempting to surpass ourselves. However, it is something that, as Elon Musk already pointed out, can turn against us, and a group of 26 expert researchers in artificial intelligence, belonging to 14 institutions, ratify his words.
They have done so in a hundred-page report, during sessions in Oxford, UK. One of the most talked about cases has been the recently popular fake porn, that is, the one in which the faces of the actresses who have shot the scenes are replaced by famous actresses such as Gal Gadot or Maisie Williams. To this day it is still distinguished from real scenes, but the resemblance that the false has with the real makes it very scary in a short time. For those actresses, in fact, it’s already been traumatic..
They also talked about the dangers that this same technique may have applied to politics. That world leaders “launch” extremist messages that lead nations to war or masses to perform acts out of reality and wisdom. The power of bots, without replacing faces, has already revealed what public opinion can be manipulated. The stronger the neural networks, the more ruthless they become and the harder it will be to stop them, even for their creators.
The message they give, finally, is similar to the one offered a few months ago by Elon Musk, that is, that we must politically regulate the phenomenon before it’s too late. Asimov’s laws will be outdated or will not become part of robotics and informatics, because they have always been something literary, but the laws of parliaments do have power.
