Virtual reality may be the perfect excuse to learn to cook, and that’s what CyberCook, an application for Gear VR that will put us behind a virtual stove, intends to teach us.
CyberCook Taster is the first cooking course for virtual reality, and Gear VR has been the platform chosen for it. “In addition to offering an absorbing experience, CyberCook ends the fear of experimenting in the kitchen,” says Starship CEO Martin Kenwright. “You will be involved in every step of the cooking process. Why learn from a video when you can practice directly without wasting anything? In a couple of years new levels of realism will have been reached. We are proud to be working with partners like Oculus and Samsung on these early days of virtual reality exclusively on Gear VR.”
The truth is that it is an interesting initiative, however it is likely that Gear VR is the least suitable platform for this type of experience, given the lack of absolute positioning and a control system to be able to use our hands directly, something that we believe is vital in this case. Even so, we applaud this initiative, which opens the way for other similar ones and proves once again that virtual reality goes beyond games and entertainment.
