Life of Rome is a new massively multiplayer online game (MMO) project that recreates the city of ancient Rome, its periphery and beyond. In it, we will be able to side with the Romans or the barbarians and live life as a conquering hero, an intriguing politician or the member of a tribe. That’s not all, because we will also be able to widely influence the gameplay and the story by setting the faction agenda, or by creating long-term political, economic or military objectives. Ambitious, isn’t it?
Currently in development at Breakout Studio in the UK, the team has a long way to go before we can see an alpha release. To please both gamers who are going to need to ensure that the MMO is detailed, full of adventures and fun to play, and historians, they are going to have to accurately recreate the ancient city of Rome, including its architecture and famous buildings. Things are looking good, since the team has recently released a screenshot of the Colosseum, which although it is in an even early state looks impressive and imposing:
Along with its great recreation of life in ancient Rome, the game promises to include PvP combat (player against player), ability to interact with NPCs and a wide series of in-game objectives. The team has also promised support for the Oculus Rift from the very beginning, which will allow players to fully immerse themselves in the ancient Roman world. Playable from a first- or third-person perspective, Roma’s life sounds promising and we look forward to finding out more about him as development progresses.
