According to a Bitkom survey, three out of four people in Germany (76 percent) want to contact the authorities in the future via digital channels. Specifically, a third (33 percent) of the respondents stated that they wanted to communicate exclusively digitally with the offices. A good two out of five (43 percent) would travel on two tracks and continue to use letter mail in addition to the digital route.
A good fifth (21 percent) would like to remain analogue and only communicate with the authorities by post. Bitkom Research had interviewed over 1000 people in Germany by telephone.
Exchange information with the office via Whatsapp – a fifth want to
Almost one in two respondents (46 percent) who would like to contact the clerk online would prefer to do so by e-mail. This is already the case with many offices. 19 Percent of digital supporters also want contact options via messenger, such as Whatsapp or Signal.
About two thirds (66 percent) of digitization enthusiasts would like to have a personal online service account. At this point, however, you have to break a lance for the supposedly very analog official mold: if you have an identity card with an e-ID function, you can set up user accounts on the administrative portals of the federation and the federal states in order to submit applications digitally.
What is possible with the online ID
The identity card portal of the Federal Ministry of the Interior lists around 180 applications: from vehicle registration authorities to the National Weapons Register to the Bafög application. Telecommunications providers or banks are also involved.
But it is also clear: if the office in your own municipality is still on the road by analogy, the online ID card at the place is of little use to you.
