We usually use our cars to travel, and if anything listen to music while traveling. But can you imagine being able to compose music while traveling? This is the ambitious goal of Mercedes-Benz, thanks to its new MBUX SOUND DRIVE technology that was revealed at CES 2024.
MBUX SOUND DRIVE: Create music with your Mercedes-Benz
This CES 2024, Mercedes-AMG announced the launch of its music technology MBUX SOUND DRIVE, in collaboration with the artist will.i.am , founder of The Black-Eyed Peas. This partnership seeks to offer a “revolutionary interactive musical experience”. MBUX SOUND DRIVE technology uses software that allows the music to react to the way the car is being driven, creating a harmonious relationship between movement and melody. This turns the car into a virtual musical instrument, transforming an already exceptional Mercedes-AMG driving experience into an emotional and musical journey.

MBUX SOUND DRIVE uses advanced sensors and software to interpret various driving dynamics, such as recovery, acceleration, steering and braking, turning them into musical expressions and allowing the driver to ‘compose’ in real time. The long-term goal of MBUX SOUND DRIVE is to turn technology into an open music platform, allowing artists from all over the world to create tracks in a new immersive audio format using the MBUX SOUND DRIVE studio software.
The deployment of MBUX SOUND DRIVE will begin globally from mid-2024 and will be available on Mercedes-AMG and Mercedes-Benz vehicles equipped with the second-generation MBUX system. Existing customers can access the MBUX software update via an over-the-air (OTA) update using the Update Assistant on their MBUX screen or the Mercedes me app after receiving a notification of availability in the United States.
To fully demonstrate the capabilities of MBUX SOUND DRIVE, Mercedes-AMG will be offering exclusive tests at CES 2024. Mercedes-Benz will also be offering the opportunity to participate in an informative discussion about this exciting technology, presented by Mercedes-Benz Chief Technology Officer Markus Schäfer, and will.i.am , who will explain the creative vision, science and future plans of this association.
